Little Savannah was wide-eyed and ready to smile for the camera when she came in with Mum and Dad for their first official family portrait.  It was smiles all round for this occasion and the result is a beautiful family portrait ready for the wall. Little Tate came in for a series of baby photos at our Balcatta studio recently with the aim to match a series taken of his older brother, Bohen.  Tate had the most gorgeous, spiky hair.  It is so funny how some babies have huge amounts of (usually uncontrollable) hair and others seem to be bald for the first twelve months of their life.  I love the interaction between Tate and his Mum in the black and white image below.  You can feel the connection of these two from the photograph and its moments like these that make being a family photographer all worth while.  Different expressions in babies can make for some fabulous photographs as well.  The third image in the composite just makes me smile every time I see it.  Sometimes having a baby NOT smile in a photograph can create as fantastic image as those where they are smiling.  I hope next time we see Tate in the studio he brings his big brother and his Dad for a family portrait.

Harley was a very relaxed little boy when he came in for his family portraits.  He looks so warm and cosy leaning against Dad’s chest in this first photograph.  Of course there were also a few moments when he wasn’t so happy to be photographed as you can see from the third photograph.  Personally I love the baby photos of them crying just as much as them smiling sometimes and think all of these expressions are just another way to capture your baby.  Dad was very proud to be holding onto his son and we got a full range of images of the two of them together.  At 7 weeks Harley no longer fits into the newborn photography section but for the most part he was certainly relaxed enough to be.  We finished off with Harley happily dosing on our cosy blanket.  We look forward to seeing Harley back not too far down the track for more family portraits.

Little Alice came in with Mum and Dad recently for a family portrait.  We discovered that Dad was a Canadian like Craig so they discussed a variety of places they had both frequented.  You realise how small a world it is when you find someone went to the same restaurant or sports club as you on the other side of the world!!  Back to 5 week old Alice.  What an absolute cutie.  Baby photos couldn’t get any sweeter when you have such a fabulous subject to work with.  Alice was happy to pose wrapped up in a blanket and swinging between Mum and Dad’s arms.  Family portraits always take on an extra special meaning when you know they are going to be sent to other countries to connect families together.  Even in this age of the internet there is nothing quite like opening a package from a loved one containing a beautiful series of family portraits.  Grandma’s can’t get enough of these photographs and we often hear from them thanking us for creating images of their loved ones they can treasure.

Beautiful one month old Rudreksh came in for a series of baby photos recently and was the first to try out our new hand knitted beanie.  I think he looks adorable!   Mum and Dad also joined in for a family portrait and were rightly very proud to hold Rudreksh in their arms.  Later on Dad did a series of photographs holding Rudreksh in one arm.  These baby photos are always very popular and are a great chance to have some ‘male bonding’ going on between Dad and son.  We look forward to having the Singh family back in to our Balcatta studio as little Rudreksh grows up.

We welcome back the Swan family for their fourth family portrait.  We started on this portrait journey with them when Rochelle joined up for one of our Blissful Life Collections which includes pregnancy photos, newborn photography, and then family and children photos.  It is such a wonderful well to celebrate the start or continuation of a family.  Their gorgeous two boys, Joshua and Daniel, are now so used to being in front of the camera you would think they did this for a living.  It’s always great to have siblings in and we have a lot of fun choosing chairs to use or backgrounds that will really capture their personalities.  The three series you see below will be framed composites to complement the other composites from previous sessions.  While I love the bright colours of the first series there is something special about black and white that just draws you into the photograph.  ”People photography’ is all about capturing the true essence of someone and I think we have done this perfectly with the cheeky grins on both boys faces.  We look forward to continuing the journey with the Swan family in years to come.

It was wonderful to see past wedding clients Britt and Colin again this time with a wonderful additional to the family with one year old Piper.  Piper was a perfect subject for baby photos and looked straight at the camera like a pro.  Mum had bought in a special pink dress that she had worn herself as a child so we were able to get some gorgeous baby photos that will match exactly the ones Britt has of herself.  It is little traditions or special outfits that can really make a photo shoot extra special.  We encourage all our families to bring in items that might have a special meaning, whether that be a piece of jewelery, clothing or toy.  Britt and Colin opted to just have photos of Piper on her on this time as there family is set to expand again in the near future so we look forward to doing a series of newborn and family portraits a little ways down the track.  All our wedding clients receive a free family portrait so if we have lost touch with you please give us a call to arrange a time to catch up.
